In today’s market Owners representation and technical support have become a key factor in vessel refits and new construction due to the complexity and integration of multiple trades required for modern boat building and repair.
The key to a successful project or Shipyard period is organization and experience. The controlled flow of information and resources will ultimately result in a project that operates in a timely manner and keeps costs within budget.
After many projects both local and abroad, DFD has developed the experience, tools, and techniques necessary for achieving these results.
Assembly of work lists, build specifications, drawings, vendors, and equipment lists prior to the vessel arriving in the shipyard.
Coordination with local and global vendors to obtain lead times and formal quotes for delivery of critical and non-critical parts and equipment required for the project.
Coordination with local and global shipyards to obtain formal quotes for wet and dry dockage, hauling/launching, personnel equipment, lifting devices, and Shipyard services such as electrical power, air conditioning, sewage, cover and protection, scaffolding and access.
DFD provides in-house naval architecture, marine design, and drafting services in order to maximize design-to-production efficiencies and control quality from the birth of an idea through the installation of the last bolt. Field questions and modifications can be technically managed in real time by our own staff thus eliminating the usual lag times between engineering and fabrication.
DFD relies on over 100 years of combined staff experience when selecting local contractors and global specialists for your project. Past performance, viability, expertise, value, communication, and timeliness are all considered when making final choices. DFD works with people and companies who share the same values and control systems that we offer to our own clients. The result is an experienced team of qualified companies all working towards a common set of project goals: your job done right, on time, and under budget.
During the course of the project all work lists & contractor lists are updated weekly to ensure items are not overlooked and any new items have been included. Weekly progress reports are produced for Owners, management companies, and/or captains and crew to keep everyone informed and up to date.
All drawings, reports, documentations are generated in accordance with appropriate Flag State and Classification regulatory standards. Certificates and approvals are kept on file and presented to the vessel as an organized booklet for the ship’s records.
If optioned by our clients, DFD will manage subcontractor and Shipyard invoicing. All invoicing is reviewed, approved, & paid weekly/bi-weekly so that any discrepancies can be addressed immediately during the refit process. For scheduled milestone payments on new construction projects, progress can be monitored while tasks are signed off keeping payments on track with progress accomplished.
